Baton Rouge, “the Capital City”, is located approximately 80 miles northwest of New Orleans, to which Baton Rouge is connected by I-10. Baton Rouge is also served by Interstates 12 and 110, Louisiana State Highways 73, 67, 37, 30 and 1, and U.S. Route 190 and 61. Getting to Baton Rouge is easy via Interstate highways. Also, getting around Baton Rouge is easy and convenient via public transportation system that is operated by the Capital Area Transit System (CATS). Getting to Baton Rouge by Plane

Baton Rouge is served by the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, which is about 10 minutes from north of downtown. It is in northern part of the Baton Rouge close to the Southern University. Airlines serving the airport are: Vision Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines. These airlines offer non-stop service to their respective hubs serving the Southern US.

Getting to and from the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport

Hop into a taxi or take a shuttle bus to reach your destination in Baton Rouge. Also, an express airport service to downtown is offered by CATS (Capital Area Transit System). The bus fare is $1.75 and leaves every hour.

Another airport that is an hour away from Baton Rouge is the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. It is served by following airlines- Spirit, Southwest and JetBlue. International carriers like Copa Airlines and Air Canada also serve this airport.

In Baton Rouge, there is no train station. Though station is in Hammonds and New Orleans from there many bus service is available to Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge is served by three Interstate highways- Interstate-110 (Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway), Interstate-12 (The Republic of West Florida Parkway) and Interstate-10. Baton Rouge is approximately 80 miles northwest drive on Interstate-10 from New Orleans.
  • If coming from east of Louisiana, take Interstate-12 to reach Baton Rouge.
  • If you’re driving from west, take Interstate-10 that connects Los Angeles, Lafayette and Houston with Baton Rouge.
  • If you’re driving from east, take Interstate-10 that connects Jacksonville, Mobile and Pensacola with Baton Rouge.
  • If you’re driving from Memphis, Chicago or St. Louis, take Interstate-55 South and connect onto Interstate-12 West and continuing moving for approx 45 miles to reach Baton Rouge.


Getting to Baton Rouge by Bus

Greyhound Lines bus service is available to Baton Rouge. There are connecting buses to the city from Amtrak Station of New Orleans.

Greyhound: The Greyhound bus service travels along Interstates 10 and 12.  It provides direct service from Baton Rouge to Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston and Beayumont, and Montgomery and Mobile. The Greyhound Station in Baton Rouge is at- 1253 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70802, United States

Megabus: Megabus  travels on I-10 from Baton Rouge to San Antonio, New Orleans and Houston. It departs from Baton Rouge downtown on Florida Street, between North 3rd Street and Lafayette Street


Getting Around Baton Rouge

Public Transportation in Baton Rouge

Capital Area Transit System (CATS) offers public transportation in Baton Rouge. The public transportation system comprises of the Capitol Park Trolley and the public bus network. It operates over 20 bus routes throughout Baton Rouge with stoppages at main districts of the city. Routes 47 and 47 serve the LSU. The bus fare is $1.75. Passes and concessions are also available. Most of the CATS buses have bike racks for commuters to merge biking with bus transit.

Capitol Park Trolley: Trolley buses are also available in the city. The Capitol Park Trolley offers free service in the downtown Baton Rouge.
